What is your highlight?

What is your highlight?

Quick, what has been the highlight of your day so far? What was your highlight yesterday?

I love asking people that question: checkout clerks, people in elevators, my husband before we drift off to sleep.

It is amazing how many people say that they have not had a highlight as if they are waiting for the event to tell them what was noteworthy rather than the other way around.

I recently had this same conversation with a young clerk at my local grocery store. When I asked her about her highlight so far, her response was that she had not had a highlight yet. When I probed further helping her see that she got to declare something as good which simply meant shifting the way she saw the events of her day, she cocked her head and said, “My run this morning, that was my highlight. I love getting up in the morning and running on the quiet streets before anyone else was up.”

That event had not changed but as she made a decision to see her day differently looking for something that stood out more than others, she experienced a whole new level of appreciation for it. It was not the best ever moment, it was just a magical moment in that day that would have gone unnoticed otherwise. Now, she has a heightened awareness that tells her she gets to declare her own highlights thereby creating a much greater degree of appreciation and enjoyment from those seemingly mundane moments.

What if you took time each day to claim your highlights? What if you then moved it to every hour or even every 30 minutes? How different would your day to day experience be if you declared things good?

I invite you into an experiment. For the next 30 days, let’s all commit to declaring our highlight for that day. Then if you are really bold, to start identifying a highlight every hour. Watch how your view of your life and your world fundamentally transforms and you find yourself swimming in a sea of highlights!

Post your highlights on my Facebook page or in the comment section below so you will inspire others.

Here’s to living your dream life,

P.S. Know someone who is ready to live their dream life? By all means, do them a favor and share this with them.
