Together, Let’s Imagine Peace
Our world is in a really challenging time. We seem to be assaulted from so many directions. It is easy at times like this to allow our imaginations to run rampant with fearful images of darkness and destruction.
The thing to remember is that our imaginations have so much power. Everything starts in our imaginations. If we are using them to terrorize ourselves, we will show up as smaller versions of who we really are. If we use them to imagine the kind of world we would love to live in, those images direct who we are and how we show up.
Peace starts with each one of us. I know in times like these you can feel helpless and wonder if there is anything you can do.
The most powerful thing you can do during difficult times is to be the quality you want to see. Gandhi once said to be the change you want to see.
Dr. King once said that we cannot fight darkness with darkness. Fear is the most insidious form of darkness. It causes us to back away from one another and hunker down in protection mode. When we do that, peace is unattainable.
But when we commit ourselves to being the peace we long to see and showing up accordingly, we stand a chance to create a world that works for all.
The first place to start creating peace is within ourselves. See that world in your mind’s eye no matter how distant it may seem. Use this amazing faculty of your imagination to see peace. We have to see it before we can be it and create it.
Then, offer peace and deep compassion to yourself. You can only give what you have. The more you are able to ground in peace and deep compassion, the more you are able to give it to others.
Extend peace and compassion to the people you love.
Then, to create peace in our world, we all must extend compassion, understanding and appreciation to those we may not agree with. That can be a bit more difficult. But, when you can see “those” people as fellow human beings who have the same desires and worries that you do, it is easy to look past the differences and see how we really are so much alike.
You see this all first in your imagination then allow your imagination to guide and inform who you are to be.
This is the fundamental process creation.
We are not helpless. We may not be able to go to the places that are at war. But, all of us can establish peace within ourselves and offer peace to one another. We can imagine and be peace. As more and more of us dedicate ourselves to this process, we really will have peace on earth as we extend goodwill to all beings.
Imagining Peace,
Felicia
