I Love My Pajamas!
I love my pjs. They are just so comfy. There is nothing like finishing a full day of this amazing work of helping you live the life of impact that you love and slipping into my pjs.
Recently, I was settling in for an afternoon of quiet work and content creation. I went to change my clothes after getting home. I saw my pjs hanging there, but reached for something else instead.
I wanted to put them on, but it was only 2:00 in the afternoon. It was at that point that I noticed this in my head that said, “Real professionals don’t wear their pajamas in the middle of the afternoon. You need to put something more respectable on.”
Now, you have to realize that I had no appointments and I was not going to engage with ANYONE. It was just me, my computer, and my dogs. I didn’t think they would mind my pj fashion.
Needless to say, I was able to quiet that voice as I reached for my pajamas and had a lovely afternoon of creating wonderful content for you in sheer comfort and bliss.
So, why am I sharing this with you?
It occurred to me during this whole 30-second internal conversation that there are other things I am not giving myself permission to do because of some silly arbitrary rule.
The reason why this is important is because it is these kinds of rules that will stop you from doing those things that you love and that are part of your dream.
I realized that if I don’t give myself permission to do the little things…like wearing my pajamas in the afternoon, I won’t be able to let myself do the bigger, bolder things that are a key part of my dream.
My hunch is that there are things you are not giving yourself permission to do because of some voice in your head that tells you not to.
But that voice does not have to stop you any longer. You can choose different.
You do that by simply noticing the conversation that gets activated when you go to do something that is not the norm. It is not important to understand where it comes from at that moment.
It is important to challenge the legitimacy of that voice. Is what it is telling you true? If it is stopping you from doing something that you are on fire with or just love or deep down know it is your next move, then it is not coming from the deep part that is connected to all things. That voice truly is coming from that place inside of you that wants to stop you from growing, from living life to the fullest.
That is when you look at that voice and say, “Nope! I am not going along. I am, in fact, going to give myself permission to…” Then fill in the blank.
What are you not giving yourself permission to do? Let it come to mind. Let the voice that says it is not ok speak, just for a moment.
And nevertheless, let yourself go for it! Let yourself experience the joy and freedom of following your heart.
