How to Choose the Right Dream for You
Do you feel overwhelmed by all the ideas you have about possible dreams to go after? It might feel like there are so many possibilities available, so many desires–and they all seem equally important. You think you want to go in one direction, but you’re afraid that if you do, you will be abandoning other dreams that are important to you. I understand the feeling, and I work with many people in this same position. What often ends up happening is that you find yourself so overwhelmed that you just freeze in your indecisiveness. Now instead of pursuing your dreams, you do nothing and those dreams and possibilities seem to slip out of reach.
I promise you that I have a solution. Here are three tips for how to choose the right dream to pursue, and then follow that path as you’re living your dream.
Make a decision that choosing your dream can be easy!
That part that wants to stay where you are loves confusion. If you can stay confused, you don’t have to move. So know that you can make a choice, and it can be a life giving choice. For every moment of indecisiveness is a moment you don’t have to spend on the life you really want. Give yourself a gift and let yourself decide for a dream.
Play with different possibilities
Here’s a process to discover which dream really lights you up. List out your dreams and imagine living the daily routine of each dream. Dreams are fulfilled by daily actions. Those daily actions make up your life. Often people like the idea of something, but when you really start considering what that life looks like day in and day out–the nuts and bolts of that life–you can feel into the energy of whether or not it brings you alive. As you imagine each possibility, feel into the ones that give you the most life. Which possibilities really bring you alive?
Focus your energy
As you make a choice for a particular path, let the other ideas and possibilities know that once you get this dream going, you will revisit these ideas to see if they still hold life for you. You are not abandoning your ideas and other dreams, you are simply putting energy into one dream at a time to bring your full moon energy to it so you can really get it going. You need a burning desire in a dream to really give it the energy required to get it off of the ground. Also, pay attention to what you are learning that you can then apply to other facets of your dream. It’s your starting point.
Now that we’ve covered some essential tips for choosing the right dream and making movement toward that dream, how do you feel? My hope is that you are more willing to decide on a dream so that you can begin making progress toward your goals.
