Is Giving Better Than Receiving?

Is Giving Better Than Receiving?

Going After The Myth That Says Giving Is Better!

This holiday season, as you give gifts to others, take a moment to evaluate how well you receive.

Most of us have been taught that it is better to give than it is to receive. But in order to live your dream, you must be able to accept the gifts offered by others along with giving your gifts.

Bob Burg, the author of “The Go Giver” tells us that the key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving. He goes on to say, “Whether or not we are aware of it, there is often a part of us that silently disapproves of, and even actively resists, our receiving.”

The Truth is that the Universe longs to express abundance through and as us and the only way we can become bigger givers is to allow ourselves to receive more.

Think about the analogy of breathing. You can’t keep exhaling giving out the carbon dioxide to feed the plants. At some point your body will automatically inhale to receive the life giving breath.

It is the same for us. If we keep giving, we deplete ourselves, and there comes a point in time where we have nothing left to offer others. But as we learn to receive, not only are we replenished but we model for those around us what it is to live an abundant, fulfilling life, the way we are meant to live.

Imagine a world of only givers. Who would there be to receive our gifts? The cycle of giving is complete when someone accepts and appreciates your gift. On the flip side, when you graciously receive a gift from another, you communicate to them that they make a difference for you and that is a gift in itself.

Share a gift you received from someone recently and how it made you feel. Include how it made the giver feel as you gave them a gift of accepting their offering. Share it on my Facebook page or in the comment section below.

Here’s to living your dream,
