You worked hard. You achieved success. You feel really good about it thinking you have arrived. Then, you watch as your success just slips through your fingers.

This just doesn’t happen once, but it seems to happen over and over again to the point where you really wonder if you can trust yourself to create something that is going to last. You may even reach the point where you hear yourself saying, “Why bother? What I have is really good so why put myself through that again?” Still, the desire does not go away.  Continue reading for 3 tips on how to get off of the success roller coaster for good so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor with real peace of mind.

  1. Understand the Success Habit
Understand that we all have a success habit. You are literally wired for your current level of success. You know how to think at this level. You can trust this level. You identify with this level. Everything about you is perfectly suited for whatever level of success you have achieved. There is that in you that will protect this level of success because you are not convinced that it will actually be better with more success. So, when things begin to “get better” the part of you that is deeply invested in your current life will literally start putting up a fight to keep you where you are. As this part takes over (and it is so subtle and so insidious, that you don’t even know it is happening) you will start doing things like delaying your action taking. You literally walk in the room just a little differently or have the conversation with just a little less confidence and it is these kinds of things that begin to shift the trajectory of your results. In addition, you are sending signals to the Universe saying, “Whoa-not sure if I really want this!” and the Universe responds accordingly by either freezing your success or creating situations where you literally backslide. Good news, you can do something about it which leads to step
  2. Acknowledge and normalize the small steps of success along the way. There is no such thing as an overnight sensation.  It is a result of hard work and persistence. Which means you experience small successes all along the way. You want to become a master at acknowledging the small steps along the way. As you do, you claim that they are now your normal. So often, there can be that voice that says, “Yeah, but this isn’t going to last.” Or it says something like, “That is just fluke. Don’t get used to it.” You can counteract this voice by not only acknowledging your success along the way but as you do, you claim that this is your new normal. This is your life now and you claim it.
  3. Trust the Rhythm of SuccessThere is a rhythm to success as there is a rhythm to anything. As you acknowledge your successes along the way, you want to pause at certain key points and really allow the new level to integrate. You have your overall vision and dream. I usually instruct folks to go 3 years out with your vision. Then, you come back and create smaller goals along the way. As you achieve each one of these goals, you pause and celebrate it and integrate it into your body. A great example is your breathing pattern.  When you breathe, there is a pause between the inhale and the exhale. During that pause, your body is integrating the oxygen. The same process is necessary when changing your success setpoint. As you achieve a certain level of success, you want to give yourself time to integrate this new level and really move around in it as your new normal. As you do, you come to trust it and more importantly, you trust the process and the power that created the success through you in the first place. Think of it this way. When you climb a steep hill, you usually stop and rest along the way. That is why there are basecamps up Mt Everest. No one just starts at the bottom and hikes all the way to the top in one run. Teams stop and rest and renew along the way. Your success needs the same consideration if it is going to sustain itself and grow.

As you follow these 3 guidelines, watch your success not only grow but watch the success continually sustain itself allowing you to truly enjoy the fruits of your labor and true peace of mind.

To your continued success,
