This Thing Almost Stopped Me in My Tracks

This Thing Almost Stopped Me in My Tracks

As you may know, I live in the desert. There are lots of creepy, crawly things all around.

Recently, on one of my hikes, I met this guy and he literally stopped me in my tracks.

tarantula standing on top of gravel

It is a big, hairy, scary looking tarantula. I literally felt my heart stop. I began to frantically look for a way around it.

I came home and actually did some research and came to find out that these guys are actually pretty harmless. Yes, they do bite, but you have to be right up on it and then it is about the equivalent of bee sting.

It is NOT the deadly, scary, big, bad bug I had always believed it to be.

This really got me thinking. How many other things have I made ‘big and bad’ that are actually really pretty harmless?

It is crazy what we can do to ourselves. We have this amazing gift of our imagination that is meant to lead us to our dream.

But most people use it to terrorize themselves. They let those scary things stop them in their tracks. As a result, they move so slowly on their dream and just stay stuck in fear.

99.999999% of the time, our fears never come true. They are just not real. In fact, there is a great acronym for fear, which is “False Events Appearing Real.”

My fear of that innocent spider was definitely false.

So many of our fears are false. The problem is you let your fear stop you in your tracks. Your work is to challenge that fear and ask yourself if the situation really has the power to wreak havoc.

You can do something about it. You don’t have to let fear stop you in your tracks.

When you are faced with something that feels so scary, ask yourself: “Is this a legitimate fear or is this just me letting my imagination take off on me?”

Take a breath and challenge the fear. Really look at it with the intention to bring it back down to its right size, so you can keep moving forward on your dream.

The more you can train yourself to recognize a fear versus something legitimately dangerous, the more you will be able to continue to act on your dream with confidence and a sense of empowerment. Share the fears you are challenging right now in our Facebook group:
