Ask and you shall receive
In Matthew 7:7 Jesus tells us, “Ask and it will be given you; search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks will receive, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
With these powerful words Jesus tells us unequivocally that our requests are honored. So why is it that sometimes our knocks go unanswered? It may be that we think we are asking for one thing but are actually expecting something else. This is because our deepest held beliefs and perceptions formulate our true request. We ask for prosperity then worry about how we will pay our bills. We ask for love and then ruminate over an insult or slight. We ask for health and fill our bodies with toxic chemicals and thoughts. You get the picture. The Universe can only respond to our fundamental vibration.
The good news is that we can do something about this. As we begin to pay attention to our thoughts, our words and to the subtleties of our emotions, our current beliefs begin to define themselves for us. As we see and feel our beliefs and see the effects they have on our lives, we take steps to replace them with the knowing we develop as we draw closer to Spirit.
Our spiritual practice helps us to discover what is real and true. As we experience God more and more as the reality of all that is, our world expands and we see unlimited abundance and possibilities. We begin to see how God answers our prayers and our faith grows. As we learn to trust the activity of God in our lives, our requests align with what we know is true and the Universe responds accordingly. Our words, our thoughts and feelings all resonate with one another and our world reflects this harmony. Then, we ask and we receive as we have asked.
