5 Secrets to Know When to Go For It!
You have this itch for an idea or a possibility. You can imagine yourself living this new possibility. But when it comes right down to taking action, you just can’t imagine putting everything you have worked for and accomplished at risk. You look at your life and realize that you already have it good, so why put it all in jeopardy? Yet you feel disappointed when you think about staying where you are. What do you do?
In this article I will unpack 5 secrets to help you know when to trust your intuition and go for what you really want.
Secret 1–Look at the cost of not going for it
So many people will consider the cost of what they have to lose if they do go for something and it doesn’t work. Rarely do people evaluate the cost of staying where they are. Give it the deathbed test. Imagine yourself at the completion of your life. As you review your life and you see that you decided to play it safe, do you have regrets? Are you disappointed in yourself for playing it safe? On the other hand, do you have a feeling of relief or a deep sense of wellbeing when you see yourself passing on this idea? How do you feel about yourself and your life when you consider passing on your dream?
Secret 2–Look at the rewards if it is successful
So often it can be difficult to imagine that you really can be successful at something. If you knew you could not fail, would you go for it? Remember that there is a power in you that knows all things. That means that you have within you everything you need to be successful at your initiative. You just may not know it right now; so borrow my belief in this. As you are evaluating whether or not you want to jump out and take this bold move, imagine that it has all worked out. See yourself creating the very results you are dreaming about and so much more. Then ask yourself, would I love this? Let yourself play in this arena for a bit and just notice how alive you become when you think about it. You want to make sure that you take a leap for something that you are in love with. At the same time, you want to give yourself permission to feel the desire and not downplay it because you don’t want to risk everything.
Secret 3–Take one step toward your dream
What is one thing you can do to get some momentum going and see if in fact you really can get behind this new initiative? Sometimes just taking the first step can be overwhelming. But once you get moving, it is amazing how the energy begins to move as well. In addition, physically taking action can give you a flesh and blood experience of what life would be like as you created this new possibility for yourself.
Secret 4–Share your dream with a trusted mentor or advisor who can stand with you in unwavering belief in your ability to be successful
Having someone stand with you and for you can be so powerful as you evaluate whether or not to go for this new possibility. It can help you decide whether or not you really want to do this, or if it is just something you are lukewarm about. Fear can be a powerful deterrent–to such a degree that you can’t really hear that voice of inspired insight. It can be incredibly helpful to have someone hold space so you can hear what is true for you. You just want to be careful about who you choose to play this role, as so many well intended people will fall right into agreeing with you about the risk and support you in common sense thinking where you let your desire slip right through your fingers.
Secret 5–Remember the origin of your desire
Your desire is not your desire; it is the desire of Life itself seeking a richer expression by means of you. It is the way that Life grows you into an even more magnificent version of yourself. When you can remember that the very Power that created you gave you your dreams and desires, you can build your trust that this same Power gives you everything required to bring your desire into the facts of your life. This knowledge helps you tone down the voice of too much risk so you can determine if this dream is for you to pursue or not.
Have a dream or desire? How do you know whether it is worth the risk? Look at the cost if you don’t go for it. Consider the reward if it does succeed. What is one thing you can do to take a step forward? Who do you know that can stand with you as a partner in believing and remember the origin of your desire?
