3 Reasons Why Needing Help is a Good Thing
I don’t understand why I can’t do this on my own. I am really successful in so many other areas of my life. Why is this part of my life (my health, growing my business, calling in my soul mate…) stumping me? I know what to do, or so I think. Yet, I just can’t see to be able to do it on my own and that just frustrates the stew out of me.
In this article, I share 3 reasons why having a dream so big that you need help is actually a good thing.
You know what I am talking about. You are highly intelligent and successful. For the most part, you know what to do and should be able to do whatever you put your mind to on your own. Why then is there this one area where you just can’t get anything going and you think you need help? Yet, when you think about reaching out for very real help, there is a part of you that feels like you are letting yourself down or that the success won’t count as much if you get someone to help you.
Let’s put the Lone Ranger syndrome to rest so you can allow yourself to receive the support you deserve.
1. Successful People have Support Teams
First of all, successful people have a whole team of people there to help them. Every successful person I know has a mentor, a coach, a guide. They are smart enough to realize that they don’t know everything. It is actually remarkably courageous to ask for help. It is an act of true humility and a sign of a really powerful, confident leader. You are in essence saying that the thing you say you want is important enough for you to enlist help.
Napoleon Hill in his book, “Think and Grow Rich” talks about how successful people have mastermind partners and mentors. They are smart enough to recognize the places where they need help and avail themselves to it.
One of the scariest and most powerful decisions I ever made was to give myself the gift of a mentor. I worked hard and made good progress on my own. But, I just hit that point that no matter how much I learned or applied or how hard I worked, I was just not going any further on my own. I knew I needed help.
I had to stare down the voices that said I didn’t deserve it or that it was too much money to spend or that they should just be willing to give it to me. But, when I just kept going back to my deepest desire to bring a work to the world that would really make a difference. I saw that I had gone as far as I could on my own. I knew I had to stop stalling and open myself to a very structured system of support with a highly calibrated mentor.
And I am so glad I did because that one move absolutely catapulted me into the next dimension of wonderfulness! Not only has it has allowed me to really grow my capacity and my ability to serve you and your dream, but every area of my life is so much richer and more fulfilling.
And this is what I want for EVERYONE!
I continue to stay in a structure of help with a mentor because my dreams just keep getting bigger.
In fact, I am here now as I write this with my mentors for a two day intensive continuing to deepen my understanding and effectiveness because I know I want to bring my best to you.
It can be a really humbling thing to say, “I need help.” Yet, I am here to tell you that it was one of the most powerful single moves I ever made for myself and again, the growth and gifts that comes from that decision is what I want for you.
2. Your Dream is Big Enough
The second reason why you want help is that you want a dream that you can’t achieve on your own. Or at least, that is my case. I don’t want to go for something that I know I can do by myself. That means it is not big enough.
If I can do something on my own, then I am just not growing much. I can only go as far as I can see in my awareness. When I allow my mentor to help me, I give her access to my thinking so she can reflect the things that I can’t see because I am inside the frame. She helps me see the part of me that would otherwise keep me stuck and I would never really know what was going on.
3. It Speeds up Your Results!
The third reason you want someone to help you is that it just makes things easier and faster. Of course, you can make progress on your own. But, it is often slow and arduous especially when it is that big, ole hairy audacious dream. Allowing yourself to receive help is like strapping a rocket booster to you so you can really take off.
So, to summarize. You have an area of your life where you just feel stuck. You think you could use some help but have all kinds of stories around why not to ask. Here are the three reasons why asking for help is a really good thing.
First, it is the thing that successful people do. Second, it means that you are dreaming big and bold, so much so, you need someone outside of your frame to help you in ways that you can’t see. And third, it is like strapping a rocket to you. It will move you quicker and further. Giving yourself help makes things so much easier and faster and you deserve that!
