3 Keys to Dissolving the Imposter Syndrome
I so get this. I spent quite a bit of my time looking over my shoulder wondering when I was going to get found out and seen for who I thought I really was. As a result of feeling this way, I felt like I had to work twice as hard and run twice as far to prove myself and show that I really did deserve to be in the positions I was in and that I earned the success I had achieved.
And it just exhausted me. I knew there had to be a better way.
That is when I discovered a process that allowed me to stare down those insidious voices and replace them with Truth!
Here’s what I did and what I encourage you to do:
1. Write down all of the falsehoods that you tell yourself.
Look them straight in the face and see them for what they are. They are lies that somewhere along the line you took on about yourself. In some twisted way, those falsehoods may have served you but they don’t any longer. Once you get your list, get quiet and let the voice of TRUTH reveal what is real and true about you. Write Truth statements that contradict the old imposter syndrome statements. Carry these with you and repeat them to yourself several times a day as needed. Do this especially when the voices are exceptionally loud. Stand in front of the mirror with your statements of Truth, look yourself in the eye, see yourself for who you really are while repeating these statements. Feel them in the depth of your being. Repeat this over and over again until they replace the old patterns. The more you do this, the more you truly do come to see that these statements are the real truth! This is who you really are.
2. Go to others whose opinions you respect and asked them to share their experience of you.
Then, BELIEVE THEM! Take a logical approach to this pattern. If you have respect for these folks, then realize that they have good judgment. They can’t be all that wrong about you. In fact to believe any differently is actually an insult to their intelligence and insightfulness. See yourself through their eyes and embrace their love and high opinion of you.
3. Start a conversation with the very power and creator of Life Itself.
There is a power that breathed you into being. Realize that you did not put yourself here. You are here by divine appointment created by the very Source of Life itself. That Source Energy created you in love for the expression of love. Realize that there is not a single thing you have to do to earn your good or to prove yourself. The very fact that you are here is evidence of your worthiness of all good things. See yourself as the Divine sees you. Let the voice of Love and Truth speak to you. Ask it to show itself to you in obvious ways and then write down what you hear. Let this power write love letters to you every day for a month. Just put the pen in your hand and ask it to reveal to you what it would have you know about you and It’s presence in your life. Also, know that I stand with you as your partner in believing bearing witness to your beauty and brilliance. The more you engage in this kind of activity, the more you allow love to dissolve any illusion of not-enoughness. You are truly able to see yourself as the Divine sees you.
As I worked with these 3 activities on a consistent basis and caused myself to stand in Truth about who I really am, I watched the imposter syndrome dissolve before my very eyes, and I know this can happen for you too.
To becoming everything that you are meant to be,
