Do you go the extra mile?
Do you go the extra mile in your work, whether paid or volunteer?
Napoleon Hill in his book, Keys to Success, gives a great “extra mile” formula that shows how our compensation is directly tied to going the extra mile.
Q1 is the quality of the service rendered.
Q2 is the quantity of the service rendered.
MA is the mental attitude in which it is rendered.
C is your compensation.
He tells us that “‘Compensation’ here means all the things that come into your life: money, joy, harmony with others, spiritual enlightenment, faith, an open mind, a sense of tolerance, or anything else worthwhile that you seek.”
What is the quality of the service you render? Do you bring your best to any and all interactions? Do you continue your own growth and development to bring an even greater degree of skill and expertise to those around you?
What is the quantity of the service you render? Do you shave time or over-deliver with your time and value?
And what is the mental attitude you bring to your service? Do you approach tasks as something on your “to do” list or do you treat each activity as a sacred encounter seeking to bring a greater degree of aliveness to each person you meet regardless of the event?
Your answers to these questions will reflect in your compensation as listed above. Take note of your current compensation so you have baseline to use as a comparison.
Then spend some time with each piece of formula. List where you already do these things and where you can turn up your dial of service and contribution even more. Pay attention to the ways that the Universe compensates you even more and give thanks for it as it is the evidence of work and contribution well done.
